# Memory and decisions

Use memory for durable context that is not readily derived from code or current documentation. Prefer project-local memory for project decisions and user-local memory for cross-project preferences. Do not store credentials, personal records, client data, or full conversation transcripts.

Use the provided tools to search or update memory. Before relying on an old note, verify that its files, settings, and behavior still exist. Treat memory as a pointer to evidence, not as a replacement for source code, current documentation, or direct user instructions.

For a decision record, capture its scope, rationale, evidence, status, and how it should be rechecked. Update or supersede records according to the local extension's rules. Do not claim a decision is current without verifying its declared evidence.
