# Magic Hour API mechanics

- Enumerate every tool and its parameters before scripting. Know which
  image, video, and audio models exist and what each accepts (cost,
  resolution, reference/start/end-frame support, audio, max duration).
  Never take defaults on faith.
- Image models cost a tiny fraction of video models. Iterate where it is
  cheap and visible (stills); commit where it is expensive and blind
  (video).
- Generation tools return immediately with an `id` and `credits_charged`.
  Poll with `wait_for_video_project` / `wait_for_image_project` /
  `wait_for_audio_project` — never hand-roll polling loops against the
  details endpoints.
- Download with the `exact_download_urls[n]` values verbatim. Never append
  expiration metadata to a URL.
- The API takes no raw bytes. Local file → request a presigned upload URL
  (`videoAssets_generatePresignedUrl`; accepts image, video, audio items),
  `curl -T <file> "<upload_url>"`, then pass the returned `file_path` into
  the creation tool's assets field.
- Log every call in `manifest.json` as it happens (tool, timestamp,
  project id, credits, purpose) and keep `credits_total` current — the
  budget check depends on it.
