# Choose a workflow

Recommend the smallest available skill that matches the user's task. A recommendation does not authorize implementation, tracker publication, or a chain of additional workflows.

| Task | Skill |
| --- | --- |
| Clarify a plan through questions | `grilling`; add `domain-modeling` when terminology or ADRs need work |
| Draft an agreed specification or tickets | `to-spec` or `to-tickets` |
| Implement defined work | `implement` or `implement-spec` |
| Diagnose a hard bug | `diagnosing-bugs` |
| Understand behavior or rationale | `how` or `why` |
| Design a module or survey architecture | `codebase-design`, `architect`, or `improve-codebase-architecture` |
| Resolve a design question experimentally | `prototype` |
| Gather source-backed facts | `research` |
| Plan an effort spanning many sessions | `wayfinder` |
| Review incoming issues or PRs | `triage` |
| Work test-first or review changes | `tdd` or `code-review` |
| Resolve an active merge conflict | `resolving-merge-conflicts` |
| Ask another person for missing knowledge | `to-questionnaire` |
| Perform setup only a human can complete | `wizard` |
| Learn a concept or improve agent instructions | `teach` or `writing-for-agents` |

Reuse existing tracker and domain configuration. `setup-matt-pocock-skills` is for missing configuration that actually affects the selected workflow, not a prerequisite for every task. Read [PHASE-BOUNDARIES.md](PHASE-BOUNDARIES.md) only when deciding whether to continue, hand off, or compact substantial work.
