# Hermes Deploy Operations

Use this when changing a self-hosted Hermes deployment, gateway, service file, or configuration.

## Workflow

1. Identify the active profile, provider, gateway, and platform integrations.
2. Back up files before editing.
3. Make the smallest safe change.
4. Validate syntax for YAML, service files, and shell scripts.
5. Restart only the affected service.
6. Run a real smoke test through the same path a user uses.
7. Keep a rollback command ready.

## Safety notes

- Do not print tokens or `.env` values.
- Do not assume a service is healthy because a process exists.
- Check logs for real errors after restart.
- If a config value starts with `@`, quote it in YAML.

## Verification

- Service is active.
- Gateway responds.
- One real chat or platform message succeeds.
- Logs show no auth/config errors.
