# Detekt

## Purpose

Enforce Kotlin quality before merge.

## When to load

**Detekt phase only** — after implementation slice, before or with build.

## Inputs

- Project Gradle Detekt config.

## Outputs

- Clean `detekt` run or justified fixes/suppressions.

### Before the first Detekt run this session

Follow [quality-tooling.md](../android-orchestrator/references/quality-tooling.md). If there is no `detekt` task, share the **Detekt** section of [setup-guides.md](../android-orchestrator/references/setup-guides.md) when asking the user. If they skip Detekt, **do not run** `./gradlew detekt`; exit with **N/A** in status. Do not add Gradle plugins without approval.

Run `./gradlew detekt` only when the task exists and Detekt is in scope.

Checks include: complexity, smells, naming, style, bugs, long methods, large classes, nesting, unsafe patterns, duplication.

### Suppression (required process)

1. Understand the violation.
2. Change code if possible.
3. Is the rule appropriate for this code?
4. Suppress only when justified.
5. Document non-obvious suppressions.

On failure: load the **file** spoke for the violating path, fix, re-run detekt.

### Common Compose / navigation fixes (prefer refactor over suppress)

| Rule | Typical fix |
|------|-------------|
| `LongParameterList` on a `@Composable` | Bundle navigation callbacks in a small `data class` (e.g. `*Actions`, `*Callbacks`) |
| `LongMethod` on `NavHost` / graph builder | Extract `NavGraphBuilder.featureGraph(...)` per area (settings, auth, etc.) |
| `LongParameterList` on dialogs / pickers | Group related lambdas in a config/actions type |

Use `@OptIn(ExperimentalComposeUiApi::class)` only where required (e.g. `testTagsAsResourceId`).

## Validation

- Detekt passes with no unjustified suppressions.

## Anti-patterns

- Keeping full Detekt docs in context during Compose implementation.
