# Suggest Sourcing Options

Translate a BOM into an actionable shopping list per vendor.

## Inputs

- Project slug, reading `bom.json`.
- User profile (location, preferred vendors, vendors to avoid).
- `research.md` if present — prefer its dated live listings (vendor, price, URL) over model-knowledge estimates; offer to run `research-components` if it's missing or stale.

## Per-line analysis

For each part, recommend:

- **Primary vendor** — best fit for the user (factoring price, shipping to location, authenticity risk for sensors/ICs, lead time).
- **Backup vendor** — fallback if primary is out of stock.
- **Trade-off note** — e.g. "AliExpress is ~40% cheaper but 2–4 week shipping and counterfeit risk on branded chips; Mouser is authenticated but ships from US".

Group BOM lines by recommended vendor so the user can place consolidated orders (minimises shipping fees).

## Counterfeit & authenticity flags

Raise an explicit warning when a part is commonly counterfeited on consumer marketplaces (e.g. FTDI, CP2102, certain Bosch sensors, branded MOSFETs) and recommend a distributor source for those specifically — even when the user prefers cheaper marketplaces overall.

## Output

Write `<projects_dir>/<slug>/sourcing.md` containing:

- Per-vendor consolidated cart sections.
- Estimated total per cart (sum of unit prices × qty, before shipping).
- Estimated combined lead time.
- Authenticity / quality flags.

Note: this skill does not place orders. It produces a plan the user takes to each vendor's site.
