# Worktree — Git Worktree Lifecycle

Create, list, and remove git worktrees for isolated feature development.

## Process

### Create

```bash
# Create a new worktree from main
git worktree add ../<project>-<feature> -b feat/<feature>
cd ../<project>-<feature>
```

The worktree is a fresh checkout with its own branch. The parent repo stays clean.

### List active worktrees

```bash
git worktree list
```

Shows path, branch, and commit for each worktree. Use this before cleanup to verify which worktrees are still active.

### Clean up after merge

After the feature branch is merged:

```bash
# From the parent repo
git worktree remove ../<project>-<feature>
git branch -d feat/<feature>  # only if merged
```

### Rules

- Always create worktrees from the integration branch (normally `main`)
- One feature = one worktree. Don't work on two features in the same worktree.
- Remove worktrees after merge. Stale worktrees accumulate and confuse `git worktree list`.
- Worktrees go in `../<project>-<feature>` (sibling directory) or `.worktrees/<feature>` (inside repo).
