About

Turn a markdown note into an Anki-import-ready flashcard file — tab-separated text with Anki file headers, importable with zero hand-editing. Use when the user wants spaced-repetition cards from a note or topic. Trigger on "flashcards from this note", "make Anki cards", "flashcard draft", "cards for this", or after a review surfaces memory gaps worth drilling. The output is always a file, never loose Q/A prose in chat.

Use cases: documents, writing, productivity

# Flashcard Draft

Turn one note into a text file Anki imports directly (File → Import). The deliverable is the file — cards pasted in chat don't count.

## Process

### 1. Read vault conventions and the note

Ask which note to convert. Ask for the user's `VAULT-CONVENTIONS.md` (or check the vault root for one) — it decides where the output file lives and how it's named. No conventions file → save next to the source note as `<note-name>.cards.txt`.

### 2. Extract facts

Pull atomic facts from the note — one fact per card (minimum information principle). Prefer "why / when / what happens if" phrasings over bare definitions. Skip anything the note marks as unverified. Show the cards as a front/back/tags table and get the user's confirmation before writing the file.

### 3. Write the file

Exact format — Anki ≥ 2.1.55 text import:

```text
#separator:tab
#html:true
#tags column:3
What does X guarantee?⇥Y, because Z.<br>Fails when W.⇥topic::subtopic
```

Field rules — breaking any of them breaks the import (⇥ above marks a literal tab; write real tabs in the file):

- exactly 3 tab-separated fields per line: front, back, tags (space-separated; `::` for hierarchy)
- no literal tab or newline inside a field — line breaks become `<br>`
- a field containing `"` must be wrapped in `"…"` with inner quotes doubled
- the 3 header lines come first, no blank line before the first card

### 4. Verify and report

Check every card line has exactly 2 tabs (`awk -F'\t' 'NR>3 && NF!=3' file` must print nothing) and the headers are intact. Report the file path, card count, and the import step: Anki → File → Import → select the file — the headers preconfigure everything.
