How to connect Apify to Cursor
This guide connects Apify MCP Server, a hosted server from apify.com that the listing calls the vendor's own, to Cursor. Because it is hosted there is no local install, and the listing marks Authorization as required. You will fill in one JSON entry, set a variable, and read Cursor's logs to confirm it.
Updated Oct 26, 2026 · Built from catalog data; how we rank and grade
Checked against Cursor's documentation on Oct 26, 2026. Commands and config blocks are generated from the same install data as each listing page.
Before you start
- Cursor installed and able to start.
- Network access to mcp.apify.com.
- Authorization (required): Apify API token for authentication with Apify platform services. For example 'Bearer <apify-api-token>'.
1. Check what you need
A hosted server needs no local runtime. Cursor only has to reach the host.
- It needs Authorization (next step).
2. Get Authorization
The listing describes an Apify API token as the required value. Have it ready from your Apify account before you fill in the config.
- Authorization (required): Apify API token for authentication with Apify platform services. For example 'Bearer <apify-api-token>'.
3. Add Apify MCP Server to Cursor
The JSON entry gives Cursor the hosted address and an
Authorizationheader that reads from a variable. A shell export supplies the token value in the environment Cursor starts from.Add this to .cursor/mcp.json in the project, or to ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project .cursor/mcp.json{ "mcpServers": { "apify-mcp-server": { "url": "https://mcp.apify.com/", "headers": { "Authorization": "${env:APIFY_MCP_SERVER_TOKEN}" } } } }Set the variable in the shell you start the host from export APIFY_MCP_SERVER_TOKEN="Bearer paste-your-token-here"- Cursor expands ${env:NAME} from its own environment, so the variable has to be set where Cursor starts.
4. Restart or reload if it does not appear
If Apify MCP Server is not listed after you save the file, read this step for what Cursor's docs say about restarting and what the approval prompt does.
- The docs do not say whether editing mcp.json needs a restart. They tell you to restart Cursor after updating files of a custom local server.
- Cursor asks for approval before an agent uses an MCP tool unless you allowlist it.
Check that it works
Open the MCP logs first. Once the connection works, Cursor should show tools, and the catalog counts 46 for this server.
- Open the Output panel (Cmd+Shift+U on macOS), choose MCP Logs, and look for connection errors. A working server lists its tools under Available Tools; agent mcp list shows connection state from the terminal.
- Once it is connected, Cursor should list its tools; the catalog records 46 for Apify MCP Server, including abort-actor-run, apify-api-details and apify-api-read.
Troubleshooting
- A server fails or an npm-based server misbehaves after an update
- Check the MCP Logs channel in the Output panel. For npm-based servers the docs suggest removing the server, running npm cache clean --force, and adding it again. Source

Security notes
- Publisher: apify.com, listed as the vendor's own server; license MIT.
- Your requests go to mcp.apify.com. Check who runs it and what it does with your data before you connect.
- Keep Authorization in an environment variable; the config above refers to it by name, so the value is not written to the file.
- This listing has no security grade: Agent Market has not published security grades yet, so the choice is yours to make from the source and the permissions.
