# Golang Development

Build maintainable Go backend services using idiomatic layering and clear contracts.

## When to Use

Use this skill when you need to:
- Build or modify Go APIs, services, and workers
- Design request/response contracts and persistence layers
- Add middleware, observability, and resilience patterns
- Improve performance, testability, and deployment readiness

## Core Workflow

1. Define API and domain contracts
   - DTOs, validation, error model, pagination/filtering
2. Implement service boundaries
   - Handlers -> services -> repositories
3. Add cross-cutting concerns
   - Logging, auth, tracing, metrics, timeout/retry
4. Write tests by layer
   - Unit tests for services and repositories, handler tests for HTTP
5. Validate runtime behavior
   - Local run, health checks, configuration and graceful shutdown

## Architecture Expectations

- Keep handlers thin and delegate business logic to services
- Keep repositories focused on data access concerns
- Prefer interfaces at boundaries for testability
- Return typed, actionable errors
- Keep configuration explicit and environment-driven

## Quality Expectations

- Follow idiomatic Go conventions and naming
- Use context propagation for request-scoped behavior
- Handle cancellation and timeouts consistently
- Keep dependencies minimal and explicit
