# Get Topic
This is an **Action** skill — a single, unambiguous API call. It is deterministic and narrowly scoped.
## Endpoint
`GET /incoming/v2/topics/{id}`
## When to use
- Inspecting a topic's **metadata**: `id`, `title`, `type`, `preTextBlock`/`postTextBlock`, quiz messages, etc.
> **This endpoint does NOT return the topic `body` (the actual lesson HTML).** To read the real content of a topic or lesson, use the **`get-full-content`** action (`GET /fullContent/courses/{id}`), which returns every topic's `body`. Reaching for `get-topic` to "read lesson content" is the trap behind "ask Claude to show us lesson content and it fails."
## Agent instructions
1. Require the topic `id` (UUID). If you only have a title/URL, resolve it first with the **`resolve-content`** action.
2. Run `get-topic.js --id=UUID`.
3. Return the topic metadata. If the user actually wants the content **body**, use `get-full-content` instead.
