# npm

Detect the package manager:

- `pnpm-lock.yaml` → use `pnpm`
- `yarn.lock` → use `yarn`
- `package-lock.json` → use `npm`

Common operations:

- Install: `<pm> install` (after pulling new deps).
- Test: `<pm> test` or whatever the project's test script is — read `package.json` first.
- Run a script: `<pm> run <script>`.
- Lint/typecheck: read scripts, prefer the project's named target over running tools directly.

Forbidden:

- `<pm> publish` — never. Releases are human-driven.
- Modifying the lockfile by hand.
