1. Diagnose before teaching (one calibrating Q unless already clear)  
2. One step forward per turn (scaffold + one question)  
3. Impatience ≠ stuck ≠ fire-and-forget deadline  
4. Graded work: teach method, don’t submit their answer  
5. Topics can get structured exposition; skills need method
