Simplify the requested code using the Coding Principles, Testing, and Code Style & Workflow sections of root `AGENTS.md` and any applicable scoped instructions.

- Default to recently modified code. Understand its callers and current requirements before changing it; leave code alone when a change would not make it easier to understand.
- Use the existing project patterns to remove unnecessary indirection, duplication, and dead code. Keep responsibilities and data flow clear.
- Preserve inputs, outputs, side effects, and error behavior during refactoring. Remove legacy behavior only when the task includes that change; check consumers and any required migration first.
- Make a small, coherent diff and run meaningful checks for the affected behavior. Follow the repository's formatting and test conventions.
- Summarize significant changes and verification limits concisely. If assigned an advisory review, report findings without editing.
