# Framed editor — natural-language management

The framed editor is the `@victorhg/pi-framed-editor` extension. The
user talks about it in plain words; you translate to the actions below.
Prefer the `/frame` slash command over hand-editing JSON — it validates
input, persists to `~/.pi/agent/settings.json` (global), and re-renders
immediately.

## Vocabulary mapping

| User says | Do this |
|---|---|
| "box the editor / frame the editor / make the editor a box" | `/frame box` |
| "round the editor borders / half-open / keep the sides open" | `/frame half` |
| "remove the frame / restore the default editor / unframe" | `/frame off` |
| "what's the editor frame doing / which frame style is active" | `/frame status` |
| "disable the framed editor everywhere" | set `framedEditor.enabled: false` in `~/.pi/agent/settings.json` |
| "disable the framed editor in this project" | set `framedEditor.enabled: false` in `.pi/settings.json` |
| "uninstall the framed editor" | remove `@victorhg/pi-framed-editor` (or the packages entry pointing at it) from `~/.pi/agent/settings.json` |

## Style reference

| Style | Look |
|---|---|
| `box` | `╭─…╮` / `│ … │` / `╰─…╯` — rounded corners + side rails + 1-column gap |
| `half` | `╭─…╮` / content / `╰─…╯` — rounded corners on the top/bottom border lines only |
| `off` | Pi's default editor, unframed |

## Rules

1. **Command first.** If a `/frame` subcommand covers the request, run it
and report the notification result. Do not rewrite the settings file
by hand when a command exists.
2. **Frame color is theme-owned.** The frame uses Pi's editor border
color (thinking-level and bash-mode borders). Do not add per-package
frame colors; direct the user to their theme instead.
3. **Composition.** The frame decorates whatever editor is registered at
session start. If another editor extension is installed later and
replaces the editor component, that extension wins — say so instead
of claiming the frame is broken.
4. **Verification.** After changing, confirm with `/frame status` and
tell the user what changed. Style changes apply immediately; nothing
   needs a restart.
5. **This instance vs. everywhere.** "this instance" / "this project" =
project settings (`.pi/settings.json`); "always" / "globally" = the
agent settings file (`~/.pi/agent/settings.json`). The `/frame`
command persists to the agent settings file by default — for
project-only changes, edit `.pi/settings.json` directly and note it.
