# Database change operations

## Procedure
1. Map affected tables, queries, jobs, consumers, dependencies, and data sensitivity.
2. Capture a reproducible baseline for latency, throughput, resource use, locks, and errors.
3. Explain expected effect and uncertainty; test on representative, non-sensitive data.
4. Plan an additive or staged rollout, bounded batches, idempotency, and stop conditions.
5. Define monitoring signals, backup/restore checks, rollback feasibility, and owner.
6. Obtain specific approval before any production query or state-changing operation.

## Query and index change gates
Use the SQL performance diagnosis procedure when tuning SQL: read authoritative
source, capture parameter/workload and plan evidence, test a root-cause
hypothesis, then compare correctness and latency/CPU/reads. A missing-index
suggestion is not an approved index DDL statement.
Compare result schemas, row identities/order where guaranteed, duplicates,
nulls, precision and transaction effects on synthetic representative fixtures.
Review golden-file differences explicitly; never regenerate expected results
just to make the candidate pass.
Separate baseline capture, candidate recommendation, functional regression and
staged rollout. Each executable collector must actually exist, support the
engine/version and have a reviewed command/target before use. Original boost
helper names do not imply those scripts ship with MCPEE.

## Output
Dependency map, baseline, proposed change, test evidence, rollout and monitoring
plan, recovery limitations, approval point, and residual risk. Never claim
performance improvement without comparable before/after measurements.
