# Workdir

Channel-scoped **advisory** working directories. When a task involves creating or
editing multiple files, declare the directory (or directories) you're working in with
`set_workdirs`, so:

- it shows in the channel's right-rail **Workspace** card (you + Max both see where files go);
- it survives compaction / rollover — after a compact you can `get_workdirs` to recover it;
- files stay in a deliberate place instead of scattering to `/tmp` or being re-specified each time.

This is **advisory only**: MaxClaw records and displays the dirs, it does NOT change the
process `cwd`. You still operate by absolute path — the workdir is a declared convention,
not a chroot.

## Tools

- `set_workdirs(workdirs: string[])` — replace the whole list (send the full desired set;
  `[]` clears). To add/remove one, read the current list first, then send the new full list.
- `get_workdirs()` — read the current list (use before editing, or to recover after a compact).

## When to use

Reach for it when a channel's task has a natural home directory — testing a skill,
scaffolding a project, iterating on a repo. Skip it for one-off / no-file tasks
(life-ops channels don't need a workdir; the card just won't appear).
