# Executing Plans

## Overview

Implement the TSP in this session, task by task, with behavioral verification
and a durable ledger. Obtain one independent whole-branch review at the end.

**Announce at start:** "I'm using the executing-plans skill to implement this TSP."

**Honor the execution choice.** Available subagents do not override a choice to
implement inline. Inline keeps implementation context in one session and pays
for a fresh review only at the end. Subagent-driven development buys fresh
implementation context and a review gate per task. Use the chosen mode.

## The Process

Resolve `SDD_SCRIPTS` to the absolute `scripts` directory of the installed
`subagent-driven-development` skill. Run every helper with the **target
worktree as the working directory**, never from the plugin's install directory:
the helpers use the current Git repository to place the plan's records.

### Step 1: Establish the Plan Record

1. Use `dmi-superpowers:using-git-worktrees` to create an isolated workspace or
verify the existing one. Never implement on main/master without explicit
consent. Record the branch's starting commit as `MERGE_BASE`.
2. Read the TSP and its source PRD if supplied. Otherwise use the approved
requirements and record that no separate PRD was supplied; do not add a new
document gate to an approved plan. Check shared interfaces, constraints,
and task dependencies before implementation. Resolve routine details within
the approved scope and record the decision and reason; ask about a change to
the agreed behavior or a contradiction the source requirements do not settle.
3. Resolve this plan's workspace with
   `bash "$SDD_SCRIPTS/sdd-workspace" PLAN_FILE`.
   Read its `plan-path`
identity and only its `progress.md`. Never adopt another plan's ledger or
   the old shared `.superpowers/sdd/progress.md`.
4. Create `progress.md` with the plan identity, source PRD, `MERGE_BASE`, chosen
execution mode, and one row per task:

   `Task N | blocked by | status | commits | test command + result | evidence path`

On resume, reconcile recorded commits and test evidence before selecting the
next task. Do not redo verified completed tasks or mark an interrupted task
complete. Keep unresolved findings and decisions in the same file.
5. Load `dmi-superpowers:test-driven-development` and
   `dmi-superpowers:verification-before-completion`. Harness todos mirror the
ledger; they do not replace it.

### Step 2: Execute Tasks

For each task whose prerequisites are verified complete:

1. Record its `BASE` commit and mark it in progress. Read its exact brief using
   `bash "$SDD_SCRIPTS/task-brief" PLAN_FILE N`.
For a legacy plan without dependency fields, verify the interfaces and follow
its stated order; do not invent parallel execution.
2. Implement here. Follow the TDD steps and compare every verification command's
real output with the expected behavior. Redirect long output to an evidence
file and inspect failures; a truncated tail alone cannot establish success.
3. Run the checks covering the changed artifact kinds. Follow the plan's commit
steps without including unrelated changes. Record commands, results,
evidence paths, and actual commits. Mark the task complete only when its
verification passed. A failed or unverified prerequisite blocks dependents.
4. Update the ledger as each task completes, before starting the next. Continue
through the approved plan without asking whether to continue between tasks.

If unfinished tasks remain but none is ready, report the missing prerequisite,
failed gate, or dependency cycle; list order is not permission to bypass it.

### Step 3: Review the Whole Change

Run the project's test command and artifact-specific checks before claiming the
plan complete. Report failures by name, including failures outside the edited
files; do not describe a partial test run as a green project suite.

Before packaging, reconcile staged, unstaged, and untracked task changes against
the ledger. Every implementation change must reach the reviewer. Commit task
changes as the plan directs; if your human partner requested uncommitted work,
provide a separate review artifact covering those staged, unstaged, and new
files. Do not claim completion while task changes are absent from the review.

For committed changes, generate the review package:
`bash "$SDD_SCRIPTS/review-package" PLAN_FILE MERGE_BASE HEAD`.
Use the returned path with `dmi-superpowers:requesting-code-review`, supplying
the TSP, source PRD, Review Focus if present, and ledger decisions.

- **Subagents available:** dispatch one independent final reviewer. Do not
replace it with the implementing session's self-review or dispatch per-task
  implementers merely because subagents exist.
- **No subagent capability:** perform an explicit separate self-review against
the same review rubric. Record and disclose that no independent reviewer was
available; do not label this independent review.

Fix substantive findings in this session, verify the affected behavior, and
request re-review of the findings and fix diff, including affected callers.
Keep minor observations in the ledger for the final report. After three
unsuccessful fix/re-review rounds, stop and present the open findings, attempts,
and proposed next step. The limit bounds retries; it never makes an unresolved
Critical/Important finding complete or the branch ready to merge.

Only report no code change after checking committed, staged, unstaged, and
untracked task files. An empty commit range with uncommitted implementation
needs the separate review artifact above, not an empty-diff completion claim.

### Step 4: Complete Development

After all tasks complete and verified:
- Report verification, review outcome, deviations, and unresolved observations.
Retain the plan record for recovery; do not erase it as a completion ritual.
- Announce: "I'm using the finishing-a-development-branch skill to complete this work."
- **REQUIRED SUB-SKILL:** Use dmi-superpowers:finishing-a-development-branch
- Follow that skill to verify tests, present options, execute choice

## When to Stop and Ask for Help

**STOP executing immediately when:**
- A missing prerequisite or unresolved requirement prevents progress
- TSP has critical gaps preventing starting
