# FastAPI & Python Guidelines

## Core Principles
- **No Implicit Types**: Every function MUST have explicit return types (`-> Type:`). Every parameter MUST use strict type hints.
- **Pydantic Models**: All incoming request payloads and outgoing responses MUST be strictly validated and serialized using Pydantic `BaseModel`.
- **Async by Default**: Use `async def` for all endpoints and database calls to maximize concurrency.

## VaultLock Specifics (Zero-Knowledge)
- **Zero-Knowledge Rule**: The backend MUST NEVER log, print, or attempt to inspect the decrypted content of `vault_items`. The backend is blind to user data.
- **Service Layer**: Keep the Supabase DB client and OAuth2 Gmail scanning logic encapsulated in clean service layers, separated from the FastAPI route controllers.
