Tools (40)

Read from the source code; the running server may differ. Descriptions are the server’s own words; hidden characters are shown as [U+…].

  • add_citationAdd a verified citationcan change or delete data

Add a verified citation to the bibliography. Takes a DOI (10.xxxx/...) or an arXiv id (2301.01234); the server fetches the real BibTeX from doi.org or arXiv, rather than writing it from memory, so the reference is never invented. It removes duplicates, appends the entry to the .bib, and commits. Returns the entry key for \cite{...}. Counts as one commit.

  • add_projectAdd another project

Connect another of your LaTeX repositories. For an Overleaf project only the project link is needed: the Overleaf token you already saved is reused. A GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or self-hosted Git repository also needs that repository's access token. Args: overleaf_url: The repository URL, an Overleaf project, or a GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or self-hosted HTTPS Git repo URL. name: A short label for the project (optional). token: The repo's access token, required for non-Overleaf repos, omit for Overleaf (the saved account token is reused).

  • arxiv_exportPrepare an arXiv bundleread-only

Prepare an arXiv-ready submission zip: flattens all \input/\include into one main.tex, strips comment lines, includes the precompiled bibliography (.bbl, which arXiv requires since it will not run bibtex), referenced graphics, and any custom .cls/.bst/.sty. Returns a download link (valid about 15 minutes). Args: tex: project-relative path of the root .tex to export (e.g. "paper2/main.tex"). Needed when the project has more than one .tex file, otherwise auto-detection may flatten the wrong document.

  • change_tokenManage your access token

Get a secure link to a web page where the user can check, replace, or revoke their stored Overleaf Git token. The token is stored encrypted and is never shown in chat.

  • check_citationsCheck citationsread-only

Check the bibliography: \cite keys with no .bib entry (broken or invented) and .bib entries that are never cited.

  • check_compileCheck that the paper compilesread-only

Compile a project with a LaTeX engine and report whether it builds, with the exact LaTeX errors and warnings. tex: project-relative path of the .tex to compile (e.g. "paper2/main.tex"). Omit to auto-detect the root document; needed when the project has more than one document.

  • checkpointSave a checkpoint

Save a named restore point of the project as it is now, for example before a big rewrite. Files can later be restored to it. Counts as one commit.

  • commit_figureSave an approved figurecan change or delete data

Save a matplotlib figure the user has approved into their project (Pro). Each call is a real commit. The server runs the code in an isolated sandbox (matplotlib 3.8, numpy 1.26; no network, no pip, no other libraries) and commits both the source (figures/src/<name>.py, so the figure stays editable) and the rendered file (figures/<name>.pdf or .png) in one push. The code must save exactly one file named figure.pdf in the working directory, e.g. fig.savefig('figure.pdf'), and seed any randomness. format: "png" (default, 300 dpi, what most projects use) or "pdf" (vector, for projects whose \inclu…

  • commit_tikzSave an approved TikZ diagramcan change or delete data

Save an approved TikZ diagram into the user's project (Pro). Takes the tikzpicture code (a bare snippet is fine; it is wrapped in a standalone document with pgfplots available). The server compiles it, commits both the source (figures/src/<name>.tex) and the rendered file (figures/<name>.png at 300 dpi, or .pdf), and returns the rendered image. A compile error returns the exact LaTeX errors. Counts as one commit.

  • connect_projectConnect a projectcan change or delete data

Connect one of your LaTeX repositories with its access token (once per repository). The token is stored encrypted and never shown again; a token passed here is part of the conversation. Args: overleaf_url: The repository URL, an Overleaf project (https://www.overleaf.com/project/<id>), or a GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or self-hosted HTTPS Git repo URL. token: The matching access token. Overleaf: Account Settings > Git Integration. GitHub: a fine-grained PAT with Contents read/write. GitLab: a project access token with read/write repository. name: A s…

  • copy_fileCopy a file to another projectcan change or delete data

Copy a file (any type: image, PDF, .tex, .bib...) from one of the user's projects into another of their projects, directly on the server, as one commit in the destination. Replaces a file already at the destination path. Works on the project's Git repository (Overleaf's Git integration, GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket); documentation: https://milatexai.com/help. Args: path: the file in the source project. to_project: the destination project's name or id. to_path: where to put it in the destination; defaults to the same path. project: the source project; defaults to the current one…

  • delete_fileDelete a filecan change or delete data

Delete a file, then commit+push. Works on the project's Git repository (Overleaf's Git integration, GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket); documentation: https://milatexai.com/help.

  • disconnect_projectDisconnect a projectcan change or delete data

Disconnect a project and delete its stored token.

  • download_fileDownload a fileread-only

Get a binary file (image, PDF, etc.). Files up to 48 KB come back as base64; larger ones as a download link for the user (valid about 15 minutes), so big files never flood the chat. Works on the project's Git repository (Overleaf's Git integration, GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket); documentation: https://milatexai.com/help.

  • edit_fileEdit a filecan change or delete data

Replace one exact, unique occurrence of old_string, then commit+push. Works on the project's Git repository (Overleaf's Git integration, GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket); documentation: https://milatexai.com/help.

Show 25 more tools
  • fetch

Fetch the full text of a file previously returned by `search`. Args: id: A document id of the form "<projectId>::<path>" from a search result.

  • get_historyView commit historyread-only

Recent commits for one of your projects.

  • get_sectionsList sectionsread-only

Return the LaTeX section outline of a .tex file. Works on the project's Git repository (Overleaf's Git integration, GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket); documentation: https://milatexai.com/help.

  • list_checkpointsList checkpointsread-only

List saved checkpoints (newest first) with their commit ids.

  • list_figuresList figuresread-only

List the project's Figure Studio figures (Pro): each figure's slug, source file, and whether its rendered output exists, plus recently deleted figures that can still be recovered from Git history. A figure's code is in figures/src/<slug>.py; saving a figure again under the same name replaces it.

  • list_filesList filesread-only

List files in one of your projects.

  • list_projectsList projectsread-only

    List your connected projects.

  • manage_projectsManage projects

Get a secure link to a web page where the user can view, add, or remove the projects MiLatexAI can access. No token needed. MiLatexAI only works on the projects listed there.

  • manage_subscriptionManage your subscription

Get a link to the user's Stripe billing portal, where they can view invoices, update their card, or cancel Pro. This tool does not change the subscription or move money itself; the user makes any change on Stripe's page.

  • project_diffShow changes between versionsread-only

Per-file summary of what changed since a commit or checkpoint id.

  • project_statsProject statisticsread-only

Word counts (approximate, comments/commands stripped), TODO/FIXME markers, and undefined or unused \ref labels, for trimming to journal limits and pre-submission checks. Counted per document (a root .tex and the files it \input/\includes), so a project with several papers gets one block per paper; tex: just that document.

  • read_fileRead a fileread-only

Read a file's content from one of your projects. Works on the project's Git repository (Overleaf's Git integration, GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket); documentation: https://milatexai.com/help.

  • read_sectionRead a sectionread-only

Return one section of a .tex file by title. Works on the project's Git repository (Overleaf's Git integration, GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket); documentation: https://milatexai.com/help.

  • rename_projectRename a projectcan change or delete data

Relabel an already-connected project. Same project, same token, just a new display name, with no need to disconnect and add it again. Args: project: The project's current name or id. new_name: The new label to give it.

  • restore_fileRestore a filecan change or delete data

Restore one file to its content at a commit or checkpoint id and commit the restoration (an undo for an edit gone wrong). Counts as one commit. Works on the project's Git repository (Overleaf's Git integration, GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket); documentation: https://milatexai.com/help.

  • search

Search across all connected Overleaf projects for a keyword. Returns a list of matching files as {id, title, url}. Use `fetch` with an id to retrieve a file's full text. (Also satisfies ChatGPT's deep-research connector contract.)

  • show_figureShow a figureread-only

Show a rendered image of a figure, cropped from the compiled PDF. Takes the figure number (e.g. "3") or its \label; the server does not match figures described in words. A figure that spans several pages returns every page; an unknown reference returns the list of figures. tex: the document's .tex path when the project holds more than one.

  • show_pageShow a page of the PDFread-only

Show a rendered image of one page of the compiled PDF: layout, margins, spacing, line breaks, overfull boxes, float placement, and page breaks, none of which the LaTeX source alone shows. Each call compiles the whole project and returns a full-page image, so it is slower and larger than a cropped table or figure. page: the 1-based page number to show (default 1). tex: project-relative path of the .tex to compile; omit to auto-detect the root document, needed when the project holds more than one document.

  • show_tableShow a table as an imageread-only

Show a rendered image of a table, cropped from the compiled PDF, so its layout, column widths, and overfull or misaligned cells can be seen, which the LaTeX source alone does not show. Takes the table number (e.g. "4") or its \label (e.g. "tab:results"); the server does not match tables described in words. A table that spans several pages returns every page; an unknown reference returns the list of tables. tex: the document's .tex path when the project holds more than one.

  • start_connectGet a secure connect link

Get a one-time secure link (valid 15 minutes) where the user connects an Overleaf project by entering their Overleaf Git token in a web form, so the token never appears in the conversation. The token is stored encrypted.

  • switch_projectChoose the active project

Choose which connected project is active. On the free plan one project is active at a time and the others stay saved but paused; on Pro every project is active. Args: project: The project's name or id.

  • tracked_changes_pdfBuild a tracked-changes PDFread-only

Build a tracked-changes PDF (latexdiff) of the additions and deletions between an earlier commit or checkpoint id and the current document, returned as page images, as journals ask for with a revised submission. Nothing is committed. Shows the pages that contain changes (up to 8) and lists them all; pages (1-based page numbers) picks specific ones. tex: the document's .tex path when the project holds more than one.

  • upgradeUpgrade to Pro

Get a link to subscribe to MiLatexAI Pro (unlimited projects and write-commits, $8.99/month). The link opens Stripe's hosted checkout page, where the user decides whether to subscribe and pays there. This tool does not charge anyone, never sees or stores payment details, and does not move money: it only creates the checkout page and returns its link. The plan switches to Pro once the user completes payment on Stripe.

  • upload_fileUpload a binary filecan change or delete data

Add or replace a binary file (image or PDF) from base64, then commit and push. Works on the project's Git repository (Overleaf's Git integration, GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket); documentation: https://milatexai.com/help.

  • write_fileWrite a filecan change or delete data

Create a new file or overwrite an existing one, then commit and push. The file does not need to exist first and parent folders are created automatically (e.g. a new section file, .bib, or .sty). Works on the project's Git repository (Overleaf's Git integration, GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket); documentation: https://milatexai.com/help.
