Tools (26)

Read from the source code; the running server may differ. Descriptions are the server’s own words; hidden characters are shown as [U+…].

  • assignmentsPatent Assignmentsread-only

Chain of title for a US patent: who owns it now and the recorded assignment history (conveyances, reel/frame, assignor → assignee, dates). Useful for ownership/licensing and M&A due diligence. Free, public-record.

  • attorneyAttorneys of Recordread-only

Attorneys/agents of record for a US patent (name + USPTO registration number), plus the docket number and customer number. Useful for competitive intel — who prosecutes for this assignee. Free, public-record.

  • balanceCredit Balanceread-only

Return the current credit balance and subscription status for the authenticated AI Patent Search Generator account. Use this before calling paid tools (dossier, oa_analyze, query, search) to verify credits are available.

  • challengesPTAB Challengesread-only

Get the PTAB validity-challenge history for a US patent: who challenged it (petitioner), the patent owner, challenge type (IPR/PGR/CBM), filing/institution dates, and outcome (patent_survived / final_written_decision / terminated). Answers 'was this patent attacked at the PTAB, by whom, and did it survive?'. Free, public-record.

  • citationsPatent Citationsread-only

Return backward and/or forward citations for a patent. Backward = patents this one cites (its prior art). Forward = patents that cite this one (downstream impact). Each citation includes whether it was examiner-cited (load-bearing on patentability) vs applicant-cited. Free. Lighter payload than `dossier` when you only need citation lists.

  • claim_chartClaim Chartread-only

Build a per-claim element chart for a granted US patent. Decomposes each independent claim into discrete elements (preamble, body parts) and maps each element to examiner-cited prior art from cached Office Action analyses. Free when the patent's dossier is already in the 24h cache. Cold dossier fetch costs 3 credits (same as the `dossier` tool). If you also need bibliographic data, citations, or family, prefer `dossier` first — its result is also cached and makes a subsequent `claim_chart` call free. Uses only cached Office Action analyses; to add fresh OA data, call `oa_analyze` first.

  • claimsPatent Claimsread-only

Fetch just the claims of a patent — the legal scope of the invention, formatted as a numbered list of independent and dependent claims. Much cheaper than `dossier` for LLM token budgets when you only need claim text. Free when the patent's dossier is already in the 24h cache. Cold fetch costs 1 credit (no AI work, just a Google Patents fetch). Prefer this over `dossier` when you don't also need bibliographic data, citations, or family.

  • company_litigationCompany Litigation Lookupread-only

Reverse lookup: given a COMPANY name, return all US district-court patent suits it was involved in (as plaintiff or defendant), with the patents, opposing parties, court, and cause. Great for competitive intel / M&A due diligence ('is this company a patent troll or heavily sued?'). If no exact match, returns name suggestions. Coverage 2003-2020.

  • cpcCPC Code Lookupread-only

Look up a Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) code and return its section, class, subclass, and group context. Accepts any level of code — section letter (e.g. 'H'), class ('H01'), subclass ('H01M'), main group ('H01M10/00'), or subgroup ('H01M10/0525'). Free. v1.0 dataset covers all sections + ~80 common subclasses; subgroup-level descriptions land in v1.1.

  • cpc_suggestSuggest CPC Codesread-only

Suggest CPC (Cooperative Patent Classification) codes from a plain-English description of a technology or invention. Returns 3-5 candidate codes ranked by confidence with reasoning. Use this when you have a product or invention description and want to know which CPC codes to use in patent searches. Costs 1 credit; repeated calls on the same description are cached for 30 days. Coverage note: the curated dataset (~80 common subclasses) covers most software, hardware, and mechanical tech well but may miss niche chemistry/biotech. For looking UP a known code's meaning, use the `cpc` tool instead.

  • dossierPatent Dossierread-only

Fetch a comprehensive intelligence dossier for a patent by publication number. Returns bibliographic data (title, assignees, inventors, dates, legal status), independent claims, backward + forward citations, patent family, CPC classifications, examiner info, and similar documents. Costs 3 credits on a fresh fetch; subsequent calls within 24 hours read from cache and are free. The headline tool — most patent-analysis workflows start here.

  • entity_statusEntity Statusread-only

USPTO entity status for a US patent (small / micro / large entity) — a signal of the applicant's size and fee tier. Free, public-record.

  • examinerExaminer Statisticsread-only

Get the assigned examiner's name, art unit, total applications handled, allowance rate, and average pendency for a US patent. Free. Useful for prosecution strategy and risk assessment.

  • familyPatent Familyread-only

Return the patent family for a given patent — continuations, divisionals, and national counterparts (foreign equivalents). Useful for confirming worldwide IP coverage and identifying related applications still pending. Free.

  • legal_bundleLegal Intelligence Bundleread-only

Assemble the full legal-intelligence layer for a US patent in one call: PTAB validity challenges, district-court litigation, in-force/maintenance status, chain of title, term/expiration, prosecution timeline, attorneys of record, entity status, and the pre-grant publication. Costs 10 credits on a fresh fetch; subsequent calls within 24 hours read from cache and are free. Prefer this over calling the nine endpoints (challenges, litigation, legal_status, assignments, term, etc.) separately. US patents only.

Show 11 more tools
  • legal_statusLegal Statusread-only

Is this US patent still in force? Returns in-force vs lapsed/expired, the anticipated 20-year expiration, and the maintenance-fee payment history (derived from USPTO events). Free, public-record.

  • litigationPatent Litigationread-only

Get the US district-court infringement litigation history for a patent: who sued whom, in which court, over what (cause of action), with filing dates. Backed by the USPTO Patent Litigation Dataset. Coverage: comprehensive 2003-2016, partial to 2020 (no cases after 2020). Empty result = not litigated on record. Free, public-record.

  • oa_analyzeAnalyze Office Actionread-only

AI-analyze a USPTO Office Action document to extract rejection grounds (102, 103, 112, etc.), cited prior art, and suggested response arguments. Two invocation forms: (1) pass only `patentNumber` and the server auto-picks the most recent Office Action for the patent; (2) pass both `applicationNumber` and `documentId` (from `prosecution` output) for explicit selection. First 5 analyses per application are free; subsequent analyses cost 1 credit each.

  • pregrant_pubPre-Grant Publicationread-only

The pre-grant publication (as-filed) for a US patent: publication number/date plus the as-filed abstract and claims parsed from the application XML. Useful for comparing as-filed vs as-granted claim scope. Free, public-record.

  • prosecutionProsecution Documentsread-only

Retrieve the USPTO file-wrapper documents (office actions, responses, amendments, IDS, notices) for a US patent or application. Free. Returns each document's ID, mail date, category, and short description — IDs can be passed to `oa_analyze` for AI analysis.

  • prosecution_timelineProsecution Timelineread-only

Full chronological USPTO event log for a US patent's application (filings, office actions, notices, maintenance fees, etc.) — distinct from the 'prosecution' tool which lists file-wrapper documents. Free, public-record.

  • queryGenerate Search Queryread-only

Generate a single optimized Boolean search query for Google Patents from a natural-language description of an invention or technology. Returns one Boolean string only. Use `search` for a multi-strategy set of queries (broad/moderate/narrow) instead. Costs 1 credit.

  • risk_profilePatent Risk Profileread-only

One-shot patent due-diligence: assemble the legal bundle and return a risk verdict (Low / Moderate / High) with an AI-written rationale — is this US patent in force, battle-tested (survived PTAB), heavily asserted (district-court litigation), and when does it expire? Costs 40 credits on a fresh fetch; 24h cache is free. Risk is framed for a party considering making/selling a product that might read on the patent. Not legal advice.

  • searchPatent Searchread-only

Generate expert multi-strategy Boolean patent-search queries from a natural-language description. The server (1) extracts technical concepts with synonyms and (2) builds Boolean queries per the chosen strategy, returning them for you to run against your full-text patent engine (e.g. Google Patents). Results are not executed server-side on this API tier (clean USPTO-only surface, no scraping) — run the returned `queries`, or use the `query` tool for a single optimized query. Strategies: 'telescoping' (3 queries: broad/moderate/narrow — recommended default), 'onion-ring' (layered queries adding …

  • similarSimilar Patentsread-only

Return Google Patents' 'similar documents' ranking for a given patent — a list of patents that Google considers technically related based on its own semantic models. Free. Distinct from `search` (which generates new queries from a description); this tool finds patents related to an existing one.

  • termPatent Term Adjustmentread-only

Patent Term Adjustment (PTA) and the resulting adjusted expiration for a US patent: base 20-year expiration, total PTA days, the adjusted expiration, and the A/B/C delay breakdown. Free, public-record.
