  • askAsk Gemini

Primary tool for codebase Q&A on workspaces that fit the model input-token limit (~1M tokens for Gemini Pro — covers most repos). Eager: the scanned workspace goes with the question (implicit caching by default; `cachingMode: "explicit"` builds a persistent Context Cache — measured ~8× faster and ~4× cheaper on repeat queries than sending the codebase inline). Falls back to `ask_agentic` automatically when the workspace exceeds the limit (set `onWorkspaceTooLarge: "fallback-to-agentic"`). For repos that genuinely exceed 1M tokens or when only a handful of files matter, call `ask_agentic` direc…

  • ask_agenticAsk Gemini (agentic)

Surgical fallback for repos that exceed `ask`'s model input-token limit (~1M tokens for Gemini Pro), OR when you only need a handful of files (cheaper than eager-uploading a large repo). Gemini uses sandboxed file-access tools (`list_directory`, `find_files`, `read_file`, `grep`) to read only what it needs across multiple iterations (default 20). Cost profile: more API round trips than `ask`, but total tokens usually much smaller on big repos. **Wall-clock is structurally slower than `ask`** — each iteration pays ~30-60s of HIGH-thinking latency, so a 20-iter call can take 10-20 minutes. For t…

  • clearClear workspace cache

Delete the cached context and manifest entries for a workspace. The Gemini-side cache is also released. Useful before switching projects or when you want to reset state deliberately.

  • codeDelegate coding to Gemini

Delegate a coding task to Gemini using its native thinking budget and (optional) code execution. Returns structured edits in OLD/NEW format that Claude Code can apply via its Edit tool, plus a brief rationale.

  • find_files

Recursive glob search for files under the workspace root. Supports `*` (match any character except `/`) and `**` (match any character including `/`). Examples: `**/*.ts`, `src/**/index.*`, `README.md`. Respects the same default excludes as list_directory.

  • grep

Regular-expression search through source files in the workspace. Pattern is compiled as a JavaScript RegExp (standard metacharacters). Each match line is capped at 500 characters. At most 100 matches per call.

  • list_directory

List the immediate children (files + subdirectories) of a workspace-relative directory path. Does NOT recurse. Excluded directories (node_modules, .git, .next, etc.) and denylisted filenames (lockfiles, .env, etc.) are silently filtered out.

  • read_file

Read a file from the workspace, optionally a line-range slice. Responses are hard-capped at 200 KB; if the file is larger you get a head-truncated slice with `truncated: true` and `totalLines` metadata. Call again with `startLine` / `endLine` to page through. Rejects binary / non-source extensions.

  • reindexForce-rebuild workspace cache

Clear the current Gemini Context Cache for a workspace and rescan the file tree. The next ask/code call will upload changed files and build a new cache. Use after a large refactor when hash-based invalidation would be slower than a full rebuild.

  • statusContext cache status

Inspect the cache state for a workspace: file count, cache ID, TTL remaining, cumulative cost, and savings from cache hits. Also lists models available to the current API key.
