ask
Answer a question from the data, with the evidence used. Give either a statement that selects the rows to reason over, or a collection to search by keyword; the rows go to the tenant's own model endpoint and the answer names how many rows and bytes were sent. Inside the deployment, with an assistant configured, the orchestrator retrieves and cites instead, and prepare:true returns what would be sent without sending it.

Write records into a collection. Each record is one JSON object; the collection is created by the engine's schema rules if it is new. With the ingestion service configured, a 'text' body instead goes through the pipeline - chunked, embedded, indexed and stored - and the answer is a job to follow.
query
Run one Data Oil SQL statement against the database and return its rows. Reads, writes and DDL all go through here; a DDL statement answers {changed:true}, a DELETE {count:n}. Rows are capped to keep the answer inside the context; ask for a LIMIT or a narrower WHERE when the answer says more remained.
schema
Describe the database: its collections, their properties, types and descriptions. In prose when the engine can write it, else as a list of types. Call this before writing a query.
